Sunshine Blogger Award

Mad Librarian aka The Movie-Addicted Librarian is the first to nominate me for my first WordPress award, the Sunshine Blogger Award. I was so happy that finally, I can get to share with my WordPress family a few details about me and you, in turn -if you would like – can tell me a little something about yourself too in the comments or email me as well.

To the friends I have made here on WordPress, your friendship to a stranger in a sunny city – on the East of the lost lonely world – is the kindness of the universe to my heart of hearts. I pray for nothing but abundance to each of you who is reading this. May you find in yourselves peace, wisdom, love, clarity and creativity.

And to The Movie-Addicted Librarian, the life loving, horseback-riding Philippe, whose blog is rich in short stories, poems and amazing reviews, whose 11 year old self conquered an 11 year writing journey, and who is just 22 and is already plotting an epic fantasy novel, thank you for the words that you bring to life through your wonderful writing. I have particularly enjoyed the most recent poem Peace, that begins like this:

Do you feel it ?

That peaceful plenitude

of an appeased soul

which has embraced

a calm for so long…(read more)

Question I was asked

What is your favorite movie ?

Nature is my favorite movie. 😊 A trip I took in December 2018

I have watched A LOT of movies in my life time but ultimately, I always circle back to psychological movies, romance and the peculiar, weird types. However, with that said, Dead Pool made me laugh and cry so much it genuinely has to be among my all time favorite ones. Who has watched The Platform? I found it very interesting. Anything with Leonardo Di Caprio is usually on my watch list but among all his movies, I fell mostly for The Great Gatsby, Inception and…you guessed it, Titanic. (I’m sorry but its really good.) There was one I watched a long time ago called If Only that made my eyes turn real red. An unnecessary series addition: How To Get Away With Murder. I definitely have not answered this question correctly but my film catalog is huge. What have I not watched?

I wrote a review of the movies I am currently watching: Lock-down Watch List: 7 Thought Provoking Movies That Expand Your Mind. Feel free to check the list out.

What is your favorite novel ?

This one is difficult. Truly. The first time I read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath I walked around with it in my bag for a couple of months (maybe four). The same thing happened with All The Bright Places which is now a movie on Netflix. Those are my top two but I can’t pick between them. However, when Love Her Wild by Atticus came out, I spent the last of my SAVINGS on buying it. There is an author called Michael Cunningham who wrote The Hours which I also sleep with by my bedside. Norwegian wood by Haruki Murakami was also a really nice book. I love the poetry series by Lang Leave and obviously, my very first novel Seduced By A Virgin (which I’m currently editing), available on wattpad for free.

Again, I know i have not correctly answered the question. I promise I will in the next one. If you find my life boring, then you can swiftly move over to viewing this book review list that touch on psychology, happiness and the meaning of life.

What is your favorite poem

This picking of favorites is not getting easy. I promise, I’ll be straightforward on the next question. True. Believe me. I’m not lying at all. For poetry, I have a list of the ultimate 7 poems that inspire me so much both in life when it gets discouraging and in my alone time when I want a spark of creativity ignited. There is one that stands out in each category of life for example love, mental health, motivational, nature, etc. For summary’s sake, I will give you my best poems in motivational, love and mental health categories.

PS: One of them is mine because I also write poetry.

Invictus

BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
      For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

The romantic fool in me recites Elizabeth Browning, E.E.Cummings, Pablo Neruda, Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe and of these I choose them all but for clarity sake (have I mentioned that this is very hard?) I will go with…

“Annabell Lee,” by Edgar Allan Poe

(Click this link to open in new window and listen to the poem reading.)

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea:
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Laughed loud at her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went laughing at her and me—
Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we—
Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the laughter in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

However, I really do love “How Do I Love Thee,” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and how Shakespeare’s Let Me Not To The Marriage Of True Minds (Sonnet 116) ends:

Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Since this has become quite long, here is a link to Pen To Paper – The Art Of Poetry (my poem) which is a prose poem written about the journey of a woman in life in her ambition to become a poet. Decide for yourself whether she made it or not and whether everything that preceded was a waste or a full life.

Okay, straightforward answers here we come!

What is your favorite song ?

If your house was on fire and you had to pick three items before exiting, which ones would they be ?

  • My hardcover notebooks
  • My passport
  • My laptop

A genie grants you three wishes… what would they be

  1. That my wishes are infinite
  2. Limitless wisdom
  3. Unbounded creativity

And finally, which blog post (it can be any format you like) has most inspired you in the last two weeks ?

Empress2inspire is by far one of the best blogs on WordPress and if you are not part of the 18,619 people that follow this blog, time’s a wastin. According to my own observation, there is at least a post to three a day with eye-opening Daily Dose for the Soul articles like this one below (just a snippet), which is among so many good ones.

“Just like two pieces of wood can be rubbed together to produce fire and the same fire consumes them both, intellect and concentration support the contemplative meditation. But when the fire of insight arises, it consumes both intellect and concentration, giving way to pristine awareness. This is the ultimate state for a meditator, not only understanding the nature of thoughts and rising above them, but living in complete awareness.

Like waves in the ocean disappear in the same sea they had originated from, thoughts emerge from and merge back into the same mind. Some start to surf these waves, but no matter how giant or exhilarating a wave, how beautiful the swell, how tidal the sea, how expert the surfer, the waves will toss him eventually. And this brings me to the moral of the story, there are no calming thoughts really, just like there are stable waves.”
